Runners of the Month - September 2011

Kim Kelly

Brian Kelly

After a long period of intent to run with us, Kim and Brian finally started to meet up for group runs at Stony Creek during the brutal February runs in 2010.

Kim was an on and off runner for many years until 2008 when she became more serious about training for longer races, now that her kids were older.  She and Brian started running with us while she was in training for her second marathon, the Martial which was just a couple of months away.  And had just recovered from her first marathon the past October, the Detroit Marathon.

She also has run a number of duathalons over the past couple of years, after testing the waters (so to speak) in the 2009 Lake Orion Duathalon.  And if I'm not mistaken she's done at least a couple of Triathalons now.

While Brian had entertained the notion of running a marathon one day, knee problems have limited his distances and prevented him from tackling the grueling training schedule.

He was always into biking, but he also started to dedicate more time to running in 2008 to improve his health.  He has run a number of half marathons, as well as the Crim and many 10Ks and 5Ks.  Brian is also into adventure racing, including races that involve canoeing and mountain biking.

Helping out with scouting and the various activities involved also eat up a lot of their time.  In fact both of their sons recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout!

Whenever their schedule allows them to join us, whether it's for a run, a race, or a Pub Night, we love having them in the club.
