Runners of the Month - November 2009

John Hodgson

Jen Keuten

Along with Jen, co-founder of the running group back when we started off associated with the North Oakland YMCA.  John (nicknamed "Johnny Lightning") is a true ambassador of the sport.  He has run numerous marathons, and has volunteered as a marathon pacer for several races.  Anyone who ran in his pacer group was sure to have a great time.

Known for gliding down the trail with effortless ease, either alone or pushing a jogging stroller with an uncooperative passenger or two, his enthusiasm, spirit, and unique sense of humor helped get this group off the ground and flourish.

Last year he ran a marathon with a fracture in his foot due to his obligation as a pacer.  Unfortunately has missed most of the 2009 season due to his losing an encounter with a balloon.

In 2010 he will be moving to the East Coast, and obviously will no longer be running with the group, unless he visits us now and then.  But his influence will live on.....forever!!

Along with John, co-founder of the running group back when we started off associated with the North Oakland YMCA.  Jen (nicknamed "Jen") is another entusiastic runner who has helped to grow the running group to where we are now.

After missing most of the 2008 season due to a pregnancy, she appears to be taking her running more serious in 2009.  She has worked hard to get back in shape after the birth of her son, Sam.  Maybe too hard, as she also has battled injury this year, fighting through a stress fracture.  However she did return in time for Detroit and completed the Half Marathon pain free.

Among her many accomplishments, #1 on her list undoubtably has to be capturing the coveted Muddy Buddy costume contest along with her sister, Lauren.

In 2010 she will again set her sights on qualifying for Boston, assuming she can avoid the risky behavior that took her out of last season's races.
